  1. I think you are running an excellent campaign. Really showing Renfrewshire Council that they need to consider people before petty politics and Finance. So unimpressed with official responses. Keep up the good work!

  2. You are doing a great job, children's education should come before penny pinching.

I hope you win and lead the way for others because sadly there will be others with this administration.

  3. Renfrewshire Council have clearly lost the argument here.

They asked us what we thought and we told them.

I wonder how many wrote in saying, "Fantastic idea. You've really got our children's best interests at heart."?

Let's see if the word "consultation" has any meaning whatsoever in this context.

  4. I agree with the other comments.

By the way, have you heard any rummors about what Renfrewshire Council would do with the land if the school closes?

  9. Interesting Headline from the Local Press

    "Surgery Newspaper ads ban"

Coincidence or are the local SNP-LibDem Administration who made this decision trying to hide?

    Let me know your thoughts..

  10. Let's face it - the councillors hardly welcomed our parents with open arms at their surgeries. With cuts and closures aplenty, maybe the councillors don't want to have to explain their hypocrisy and failures several times a month.
Call me cynical, but certain media sources have been highly supportive of us, so maybe cutting their advertising is the political alternative to putting them in the naughty corner!
Either way, cutting advertising and alienating groups of society who have no internet access, or those who are unable to visit such places as the ocuncil building to find out surgery times, is hardly delivering on, well, anything for Scotland's people.

  11. A fantastic and well orchestrated campaign. Congratulations to the organisers. You are doing an amazing job - the council don't seem to know what's hit them!

  12. Libraries, the Ice rink, Nurseries, South School
and now daycentres, do the SNP plan to put a CLOSED sign up in Renfrewshire.

With so many broken promises a Small Majority and their Current Track Record it WILL be a short ride from Administration to Opposition for the SNP/Lib Dem led coalition.

Councillors should listen and learn from their most important Customers -namely
    their Constituents.

  13. Annonymous (various) Be careful for what you wish for. Remember who left Renfrewshire Council with a large deficit at the heart of Renfrewshires finances? Would New Labour have had to do the same thing's had they clung on to power? That is the great unanswered question.

  14. Allan,

You make a valid point, without getting political the previous Labour Adminstration did hold a consultation with regards to schools in Paisley South, difference on that occasion was that there were a number of options for the electorate to consider not just ONE. Unfortunately they failed to address the 2 crumbling & aging schools still open, instead opting to build a new PPP school at Todhom increasing a P1-3 school to P7 and failing to also address catchment areas correctly.
As far as deficits and financial cuts are concerned I remain sceptical as the hypocrisy and double standards are there for all to see.
    Time will tell...

  15. Lets not get all political.....remember there are children in the middle of all this..the children deserve the right to be taught at there local school, which there parents have chosen for them with great thought...BUT... we chose SNP/LIB DEM at the last election and look at the MESS they are getting Paisley into. Its wont be a GHOST town it will be a CLOSED town....!

  16. Speaking of getting political - I was handed a note from COuncillor Jim MItchell on Tuesday evening. He described the note as being his "reasons for supporting the closure of South School" The note contained a list of schools closed or merged by labour (across Renfrewshire, not specific to his own ward) and explained that these children were casualties of falling rolls in the same way that South childrne will be.
So, I'm sure the voters of Paisley South will draw their own conclusions regarding their own local councillor, who is happy to see his own ward affected by cuts and closures in order to score cheap retaliation points against Labour.
Oh, andd needless to say, Cllr Mitchel opposed all those school closures. Yet he won't oppose a closure in his own ward because there is a game of politcal tit-for-tat at stake.

  17. There is a huge hypocrisy going on just now with the Labour councillors who are supporting your campaign.

Did you know that the main reason that South Primary is in this situation is because the Labour adminstration (when they were in power) decided to extend Todholm significantly.

The consequence of this was to reduce the South Primary catchment area. The previous administration admitted at the time that their action would put the future of South Primary at risk.

If you don't believe any of this then you should obtain the council minutes which are on record.

At that time the administration never believed that they would be removed from power and now they are trying to curry favour with voters over an issue that in reality was caused by themselves. If you are interested then please check the council records

At this time Labour have no power or control to influence the decision on the school so they are trying to cause as much bad publicity for the new administration as possible and naturally campaigners will accept as much help as possible.

The reality is that they have no real interest in you or your children and are likely to drop you like a stone after the decision is made and they have a new issue to move on to.

I don't expect you to publish this, however, I thought that I would state the facts of how this situation has arisen for the record and for your information.

I as a parent I personally sympathise with the parents and children affected by this decision.

I understand that the new council adminstration and no I am not part of it)have inherited a huge financial mess from the previous adminstration and have to make some very difficult decisions to balance the books.

The opposition party supporting your campaign have decided to 400 schools in England and Wales for the same reasons as have been stated for the closure of South Primary. Therein lies the hypocrisy.

I think that you have got in to bed with the wrong people.

  18. [Anonymous], I think you'll find we were "in bed" with no-one. We constructed our own arguments, and sought advice from our MP and MSP, who happen to be Labour, and our local councillors. The only councillors who offered support or listened were Labour councillors, however we approached everyone indiscriminately and unfortunately hte SNP and Lib Dem councillors were uninterested.
We are well aware of the policies of all involved parties, and are not naive enough to believe that Labour do no wrong, but it is clear to see who made the wrong decision today.
